Small Ships Register (SSR)

An SSR is an inexpensive way of providing documentary evidence of the yacht's nationality, and registration under this scheme or under 'full registration' within the Shipping (Jersey) Law 2002 is imperative when visiting abroad with your vessel. The certificate is valid for 5 years, and must be renewed when any changes take place otherwise it will be rendered invalid. Application can be made by individuals who are ordinarily resident in Jersey and is limited to ships under 24 metres (79 feet) in length.

Although this registration scheme provides a certificate of registry acceptable to European Customs, it does not enable ownership of a ship to be legally established, nor can marine mortgages be recorded.  For these services registry must be issued under 'full registration'.  Individuals only (not Companies) may apply for SSR registration.

The Certificate is presented within a pale blue plastic wallet and must be signed and surrendered to Jersey Harbours upon sale or transfer of ownership.  The number allocated is unique to the vessel and cannot be transferred to another craft.
